Blue Leg Hermit Crab

The blue leg hermit crab, also known as the Dwarf Blue Leg Hermit Crab, is a small, colorful crab with bright blue legs and orange bands: 

• Size: A maximum size of about one inch 
• Color: Bright blue legs with orange or red bands 
• Claws: Both claws are the same size, which is unique among hermit crabs 
• Habitat: Found in the shallow tropical waters of the Caribbean Sea, as well as off the coasts of Florida and Mexico 
• Diet: Omnivorous, eating algae, detritus, leftover fish food, and small amounts of cyanobacteria 
• Temperament: Generally peaceful, but may become aggressive if they are not provided with enough food or shells 
• Aquarium care: Recommended tank size of at least 10 gallons, with water parameters of 72–78°F, pH 8.1–8.4, and specific gravity 1.023–1.025 
• Molting: When molting, the crab will shed its exoskeleton, which can resemble a dead crab 

Blue leg hermit crabs are one of the few reef-safe crabs and are a popular choice for aquariums because they help clean the tank and sustain the ecosystem. They are also active and comical, making them entertaining to watch.
