Cleaner Shrimp

Cleaner shrimp have many characteristics, including:

• Appearance
  Cleaner shrimp can have a variety of colors and markings, including red, white, orange, and amber: 
  
• Pederson's cleaner shrimp: A small, translucent shrimp with blue, lavender, and light blue spots and stripes 
  
• Pacific cleaner shrimp: A long, narrow, pale amber-colored shrimp with a red tail and white spots 
  
• Hawaiian cleaner shrimp: An orange shrimp with a red dorsal surface and a central white stripe 
  
• Scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp: A shrimp with a white stripe in the middle and two red stripes on either side 
  
• Size
  Cleaner shrimp are usually about the size of an adult finger, or 2–2.4 inches long 
  
• Antennae
  Cleaner shrimp have long white antennae that they use for navigation and to detect food and predators 
  
• Diet
  Cleaner shrimp are omnivorous and eat parasites and dead tissue from fish 
  
• Reproduction
  Cleaner shrimp start life as male, but become hermaphrodites after a few molts

  Cleaner shrimp adjust their behavior based on the presence of predators
