The Asfur angelfish, also known as the Arabian or Crescent angelfish (Pomacanthus asfur), is a popular saltwater fish with a distinctive dark blue/purple body, black face, yellow tail, and a prominent yellow crescent bisecting the body vertically.
Appearance:
- Body: Dark blue/purple with a black face.
- Crescent: A prominent yellow crescent-shaped band bisects the body vertically.
- Tail: Bright yellow tail fin.
- Fins: Elongated dorsal and anal fins with filaments that trail behind the fish.
- Size: Can grow up to 16 inches (40 cm) in length.
Behavior and Care:

Temperament:
Generally peaceful, but can become territorial as they mature.

Diet:
Omnivorous, feeding on a variety of marine pellets, flake foods, and frozen offerings like brine, mysis, and spirulina.

Tank Compatibility:
Can be kept with other peaceful species like Powder Blue Tangs, Blueface Angelfish, Naso Tangs, and Yellowtail Blue Damsels.

Aquarium Requirements:
Requires a large aquarium (minimum 125 gallons) with ample hiding spots and space.

Water Conditions:
Prefers water temperature of 72-79°F, dKH 8-12, sg 1.020-1.025, and pH 8.1-8.4.

Origin:
Found in the western Indian Ocean, including the Red Sea and the Gulf of Ade - Hermaphroditic: All Angelfish are hermaphroditic.

Juveniles:
Juvenile Asfur Angelfish have a white mid-band that develops into a brilliant yellow or gold when adult.

Aggression:
Asfur Angelfish can be aggressive towards their own species, especially when competing for food or hiding places.

Reef Compatibility:
While generally considered reef-compatible, they may nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles.
