The Chocolate Tang, also known as the Mimic Lemon Peel Tang or Yellow Mimic Tang, is a saltwater fish with a unique appearance and behavior, known for its algae-eating abilities and potential for mimicking other fish species as juveniles.

Here's a more detailed description

Appearance:

  • Juveniles: As juveniles, they resemble either the dwarf Lemonpeel Angelfish (Centropyge flavissimus) or Yellow Angelfish (Centropyge heraldi), with an overall yellow body and a blue ring around the eye.

  • Other features: They have a streamlined body and distinct white markings near the tail and dorsal fin.
  • Size: They can grow to be approximately 8 inches long.
  • Scientific Name: Acanthurus pyroferus

Behavior and Care:

  • Habitat: Native to the Indo-Pacific region, they are found in shallow waters with rocky areas and coral reefs.
  • Diet: They are primarily algae grazers, but also benefit from a varied diet of meaty and algae-based foods.
  • Tank Requirements: They need a well-established aquarium with plenty of swimming space and rockwork for grazing and hiding.
